GrowingGreat Alum Inspired by our Partnership with Manhattan House
By Jill Coons
This year, GrowingGreat is honoring Marisa for her volunteer work alongside her mother, Robinson docent Corina McGovern, at GrowingGreat’s fourth annual Farm to Table Benefit. To find out more about the Benefit, click here.
When Chef Diana Stavaridis from Manhattan House approached GrowingGreat about having students from local elementary schools paint a wall at the restaurant, Marisa McGovern had a better idea. She volunteered to paint a 12’ X 12’ mural highlighting GrowingGreat’s nutrition and garden education programs and our collaboration with Chef D. This collaboration, GrowingGreat Jr. Chefs, is an extension of our activities in the five Manhattan Beach elementary schools in which the students work with Chef D to create their own menu item featured in the restaurant. Marisa, a Robinson Elementary GrowingGreat Alum, is currently a freshman at Chadwick and a budding artist. She has been working alongside a local muralist, Chef D, and our Director of Education, Jill Coons to create a community masterpiece. Marisa feels her artistic talents allow her to serve her community while supporting the GrowingGreat programs in Manhattan Beach. When Marisa is not painting, she is active in the Girl Scouts and likes to spend time dancing and sewing.
