Elementary School Education

Children in GrowingGreat-supported elementary schools receive nutrition and garden education aligned with grade-level Next Generation Science and Common Core standards for math, reading, science and social science. Our nutrition curriculum teaches children the basics of what’s in their food (e.g., proteins, fats, and carbohydrates), how to build a balanced meal using the MyPlate model and how to think critically about nutrition labels. GrowingGreat garden activities bring cross-cutting concepts to life, allowing students to actively discover where food comes from, how it is grown and how they can use their senses to explore fresh fruits and vegetables. Through garden activities, GrowingGreat empowers students to engage with STEM concepts with hands-on experiments like seed dissections and aqueduct engineering. GrowingGreat educators assist students in planning, planting, tending and harvesting their gardens, inviting students to explore, innovate and get their hands dirty every step of the way.
