Downey Community Garden

On September 26th, thanks to a generous grant from the Steinmetz Family Foundation, GrowingGreat (GG) and Pius X Matthias Academy (PMA) worked together to transform a piece of dry, barren land into an edible garden classroom on the PMA campus in Downey, open to students and the community. Thanks to the hard work of 40+ PMA students and teachers and GG staff, the garden is now complete with garden vegetable boxes, potted herb plants, a pollinator garden, and a tree stump sitting area for group learning and sharing. Slow Food USA, in partnership with Chipotle, granted 50 burritos, gift cards, and garden workbooks to the event. Over the next year, with the support of member of the Downey Kiwanis, GG and PMA will work together to create a beautiful and nutritious learning garden where students and community members of all ages will experience where food comes from by planting, harvesting and eating their own vegetables.

Where is this Garden? Is it open to the community/Dpwney residents to plant and harvest?
